The 4th of July is quickly approaching and is what I determine to be the peak of summertime. It is a time when I decide to escape the sizzling city streets and head to the beach, for a weekend filled with dancing, fireworks, good friends & family, and most importantly a delicious BBQ! As any good photographer knows, this a prime time to bring out the camera and optic lenses to capture the essence of America!
If you haven’t decided what you’re doing for this long weekend, it’s not too late! Here are some ingredients to create the perfect 4th of July weekend.
I’ll be heading to a little town called Grand Haven this weekend where I plan to spend the whole week on their Californian-esque beaches. If you don’t have access to a beach, check out some local state parks in your area! This is a time to explore, get lost and disconnect. Spend your days hiking, playing in swimming holes and capturing tidbits of nature. Plan your nights spent listening to darkness and stargazing. Don’t forget to bring along your wide-angle lens to capture a full 180 degree view of these moments!
Don't have a Fireworks display? Use Sparklers!
Did someone say BBQ?
If you’re like me, you probably don’t have time to make a gourmet meal every night for a crowd of one. However, when it comes to holidays, I like to bring out the whole spread. Put aside your boring work salad and make something that not only makes your taste buds feel alive, but create something that’s aesthetically pleasing (and photogenic) as well. Say goodbye to your boring vodka sodas, and hello to tropical fruity drinks you can sip out of a coconut or why not even empty out a watermelon and fill it up with a punch to share (under your own discretion). Make sure to remember the Rule of Thirds, to capture a beautiful shot!
Whether you’re spending the holiday in the city, on the beach or in a tent, don’t forget to grab your OOWA lens and snap away! Happy 4th of July ya’ll!
